Faux Finishes |

This was the dining room in our small home before I went Faux Crazy. In this picture you can see the table and chairs, the white wall, and a corner of the kitchen counter (bottom right hand side), which was orange, of all things. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's white walls! The table was also dated and not very attractive. But, why buy a new table when you can just make one over? (That's my husband working at the table.) |
In this picture you can see the transformation. I wanted the feel of adobe for the walls (to give a Southwestern flare to our dining room -- another sign of homesickness). The table and chairs were painted with a faux verdigris copper finish, but the tabletop was painted with chalkboard paint for fun Pictionary parties. It's come in very handy and been a big hit! In this picture, you can still see the hideous orange countertop. |

I need to do some digging for the before pictures of this kitchen counter makeover, but here you can see the faux sandstone tile finish. This is paint, folks. Everyone who sees it is amazed. It's sealed with five coats of sealer, but I must confess that even five coats isn't always enough. I do need to repair some small nicks and chips here and there after a couple of years of use. |
